I was born in Thorpe and have spent most of my life to date living in Thorpe Ward. I have seen numerous changes in the area, not all of them positive, and that led me to join TWRA many years ago to help campaign to retain all that is good in the ward, prevent deleterious changes and promote plans to improve it for future generations. After a spell as Chairman of the Association, I was asked to stand as an Independent Ward Councillor and elected in 2008. The committees I sit on are shown above. My early career in research physics was followed by a spell in horticulture, and culminated in teaching adult literacy and special needs students. I am a Governor of Thorpe C of E Primary School, which I’m proud to say has an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating. Having a keen interest in family and local history, I became a trustee of Egham Museum and Egham by Runnymede Historical Society, both of which enable me to set current Thorpe issues in historical context. I hope my varied career experiences help enable me to engage with residents’ and their concerns and I continue to work for the best outcomes for Thorpe, including via the Thorpe Neighbourhood Forum, currently evolving alongside the Runnymede Borough Local Plan. |

I have lived in Thorpe since 1981 and am married with two sons, 31 and 28. Over the years I have been actively involved with FOTSA (Friends of Thorpe School Association) and was the first Parent Governor of Thorpe C of E School. I have also been involved with the Scout movement within Thorpe village and continue to be in my capacity as Secretary, Treasurer and Trustee of Thorpe Youth Association. The Association is currently working very hard to raise funds for a replacement HQ for all the youth to use. After working at a local doctor's surgery for twelve years, I became involved with TWRA (Thorpe Ward Residents' Association) and was then asked to stand as an Independent candidate in 2004 for Thorpe Ward. I was last re-elected in 2016. I just want to make some contribution to my local community, especially the young people and also to Runnymede Borough as a whole. |
